Analysis of the English oral discourse of intermediate English learners at a language teaching center

Abstract

In language learning, it is essential to develop linguistic skills to generate the communicative process. Although, the main skills considered in language courses include oral and written expression and comprehension, it is important to highlight that, in oral production, pronunciation is one of the primary factors that must be taken into consideration, since it determines the presence or absence of interference in the development of the communicative process. The present study, based on action research, includes the diagnosis phase, carried out with the objective of determining the current level of linguistic skills for the oral discourse production in English in a group of students in the sixth level of the English course of a language teaching center. Based on the application of a series of instruments, the results highlighted the need for improvement in the field of pronunciation of most of the participants of this level of the course.
