Abstract

Melancholy appears in different contexts and functions during the Golden Age, sometimes as a true disease or morbid condition and other times as pretext to articulate ingenious plots. The chosen variant is related to serious or comic dramatic subgenres. It is necessary to analyze the perspectives of melancholic or supposedly melancholic agents to perceive whether the subject is seriously or jokingly observed.
