This paper analyzes the rural dwelling situation in Chile, which takes place within the agricultural modernization process, especially in the fruit production and forestry areas. Evidences is given of the reasons which have stopped the traditional country to city migration; the process of rural spatial resettling is acknowledged as well. This process has generated housing demands according to the new living conditions. Finally, the patterns for the development of a suitable housing development are suggested
