Abstract

Chile has maintained an active presence in the Pacific that in the past had a geopolitical stamp. However, in the 1990s it was necessary to reorient the relationship with the region through a political-economic strategy. To support the foregoing, this paper first analyzes economic and trade relations, since without a doubt the extraordinary dynamism of some countries in the region requires special concern. In the political sphere, the conditions that influence the design of relations with the region are mentioned. Thus, the arrival of democracy in Chile has allowed greater mobility and common interests to be shared. The new political trends in the Basin make it necessary to carry out a flexible foreign policy, constantly participating in their organizations and supporting their own issues or values.
