Abstract

It is a fairly unknown fact that in different cities of the continent, since 1998, 900 negotiators from 34 countries meet every three months to shape the FTAA (Free Trade Area of the Americas), the largest market that humanity has known to date, with 800 million people and an internal product of 12.5 trillion dollars. Ours has been a little-known, sudden and mighty process, which contrasts, as geography also does, with the development observed in Europe, which has been slow, rationally planned, highly visible, endowed with institutions and obeyed la different geopolitical design: to prevent a world war conflagration from occurring again on that continent.
