Abstract

Throughout the characters of Esther Tusquets’ novel, El mismo mar de todos
los veranos (1978), this article analyses how lesbianism becomes progressively
visible in Spanish society during the transition to democracy after Franco’s regime.
The materialization of this desire, still regarded as deviated, acts as a subversive
element opposing the strict gender role stereotypes established during
that dictatorship.
