Since the recent appearance of International Environmental Law as an independent sector of international regulations, a series of fundamental principles have been configured in it, some of which have a solid jurisprudential and conventional basis, together with an important application in the international state practice. Among them we can mention the principle of prevention, international cooperation, precaution, responsibility and repair of environmental damage, environmental impact assessment, "polluter pays", and citizen participation.
