Abstract

The vast part of the essays that treats the visit of Juan de Ovando to the Indian Council, between 1567 and 1571, and the phase in which he presided the Council until his death, in 1575, centers basically in the development of the project known as "ovandin code". Nevertheless, in this occasion an emphasis must be made about the transcendence for the entire project that the questionnaires had, those that were remitted in 1569 to all the Indian authorities, secular and ecclesiastic, as well in the responses remitted from New Spain, specifically from the Audiences in Mexico and New Galice.
