This paper analyses the most significant orthographic and phoneticaspects of Aurora de Chile, a ministerial and political newspaperpublished weekly during 1812-1813, which was directed by Camilo Henríquez and written by many contributors. This newspaper has anenormous documentary value, not only because it is the first relevantnewspaper in Chile, but also because it constitutes a large corpus,which is made up of national and international news of various kinds,and which clearly reflects the independence movement ideologicalconcerns.
