Abstract

The Norte Grande Argentino is characterized by lower socioeconomic development compared to other regions of the country, a situation clearly identified with the implementation of various indicators. Within this territory, also can be distinguished disadvantaged areas than others in these respects. This is the case of the Province of Jujuy, that in 2001 had one of the highest percentages of houses with unmet basic needs with respect the rest of the country, the intensity of Household Material Deprivation Index denoted a similar behavior, while the Quality of Life Index positioned to this province as one of those with lower quality of life in the Argentine. Thus, it is a marginal space in the region where environmental characteristics, the historical process of occupation, the emergence of capitalism in the area and the modernization of production structures, has led to territorial processes that have positioned this territory on both sides of the dichotomy poverty -quality of life. Thus, this paper analyzes the main results of the socio-spatial fragmentation of the living conditions of the population of the province of Jujuy, registed in 2001.
